Speaking to the Bombay Times, Alia Bhatt recently revealed that she joined the sequel after falling in love with the first installment. Calling the original film a rare cinematic experience, Alia said ‘Tumbbad’ has continued to resonate with audiences long after its theatrical release.

"Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people’s imagination years after they’ve released. That’s what makes this opportunity so exciting," she said.

Although the makers are keeping details about Alia's character tightly under wraps, industry reports hint that she will have a substantial presence in the film rather than a brief appearance. As per Pinkvilla, the actress is expected to spend nearly 20 days on the shoot, with her character playing a pivotal role in the sequel's climax.

The report also suggests that her storyline has been designed to carry forward into 'Tumbbad 3', where she is likely to have a more prominent role alongside Sohum Shah.

Reports indicate that the makers have allocated a budget of approximately Rs 100 crore, making it far bigger than the original film. Helmed by Adesh Prasad, who previously worked as co-director and writer on the original, 'Tumbbad 2' also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a key role.

With the tagline 'Pralay Aayega', 'Tumbbad 2' is slated to arrive in cinemas on December 3, 2027.

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt was last seen in 'Alpha', the latest installment in the YRF Spy Universe, where she portrayed Sita, a highly trained assassin. The action entertainer also featured Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, with Hrithik Roshan in a cameo appearance. She is now gearing up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Love & War', where she will share screen space with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
