1. Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups
Following the global success of the ‘K.G.F’ franchise, Yash is returning to the big screen in a dark, stylish dual role as a father and his lookalike son in ‘Toxic’. As revealed in the film's teaser, one character is an older, mature, bearded man named Raya, while his younger counterpart is referred to as ‘Ticket’. Set in the criminal underworld of Portuguese-era Goa, the story explores power, betrayal, violence and survival. It promises to showcase a completely different side of Yash's acting range. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, this highly anticipated film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth. After undergoing multiple date changes to coordinate its international rollout, ‘Toxic’ is now scheduled to release worldwide on August 26, 2026.
2. Ramayana
Ranbir Kapoor will portray Lord Rama as well as Lord Parashurama in Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part ‘Ramayana’. The unusual double role is rooted in mythology, as both characters are considered avatars of Lord Vishnu but possess strikingly different temperaments. Rama represents composure and restraint, whereas Parashurama is a fierce warrior-sage associated with anger and martial power. Their paths cross after Rama breaks Lord Shiva’s bow during Sita’s swayamvara. Sai Pallavi stars as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. ‘Ramayana: Part One’ will release globally on November 8, 2026, while its second instalment is planned for 2027. The two-part narrative chronicles the life of Lord Ram, his exile, the abduction of Sita, and the ultimate war against the demon king Ravana.
3. Animal Park
Ranbir Kapoor will return in dual roles in another upcoming project ‘Animal Park’. The Bollywood star will face himself as protagonist Ranvijay Singh and antagonist Aziz Haque in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. Aziz, the younger brother of Abrar Haque, was introduced in ‘Animal’ after undergoing surgery to look exactly like Ranvijay. The transformation sets up the sequel as a violent war between two identical men seeking vengeance. Rashmika Mandanna is expected to return as Geetanjali, while Triptii Dimri could reprise her role as Zoya, although the complete cast has not been officially locked. Sandeep Reddy Vanga has promised a more aggressive film, while Ranbir has expressed excitement about playing both hero and villain. Production is scheduled to begin in mid-2027, making a theatrical release before 2028 unlikely.
4. Devara: Part 2
Jr NTR will continue his father-son double role as coastal chieftain Devara and his son Vara in Koratala Siva’s ‘Devara: Part 2’. The first film followed Devara’s battle against arms smuggling along the Red Sea and Vara’s seemingly timid response to his father’s violent legacy. Its climax revealed that Vara’s personality concealed a larger plan before ending with a major question about Devara’s fate. The sequel will focus more heavily on Vara while explaining what happened between the two men. Saif Ali Khan is expected to return as Bhaira, with Janhvi Kapoor reprising her role as Thangam. Anirudh Ravichander will once again compose the music. The makers have officially reconfirmed the sequel, but no release date has been announced.
5. Kalki 2
Directed by Nag Ashwin and targeting a December 2027 release, this sequel will continue the dystopian sci-fi epic that left audiences stunned. The climax of the first film revealed that Prabhas’ character – the modern-world bounty hunter Bhairava – is actually the reincarnation of the legendary Mahabharata warrior, Karna. In the upcoming sequel, Prabhas is confirmed to seamlessly navigate both timelines, bringing both Karna and Bhairava to life on screen. Featuring a major casting shift with Deepika Padukone’s exit, and alongside the return of Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, Prabhas’ dual-timeline performance will serve as the emotional and action-heavy core of this mythology-meets-sci-fi universe. No official release date has been announced, although a late-2027 window has been reported.
6. Shakti Shalini
Expanding the immensely popular Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, Aditya Sarpotdar’s ‘Shakti Shalini’ is currently in production and will see Aneet Padda headlining the project alongside Vishal Jethwa. Fresh off the success of Mohit Suri's ‘Saiyaara’, Aneet Padda will take on the challenge of portraying two drastically different entities in the eternal battle between good and evil. She will play a powerful protector named Shakti, as well as a vengeful spirit named Shalini, inspired by Bengali folklore. Aneet’s character was first teased at the end of ‘Thamma’ as “the creator, the destroyer and the mother of all.” This dual role will give the breakout actress a massive canvas to showcase her range, blending intense horror elements with the franchise's trademark comedy. The film is expected to release on December 24, 2026, though reports suggest it could be postponed.
7. Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand
Kartik Aaryan is reportedly playing both the protagonist and antagonist in ‘Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand’. Directed by ‘Fukrey’ filmmaker Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, the creature comedy follows a shape-shifting ichchhadhari naag whose life and Naagmani are threatened by a power-hungry enemy. The story moves between the mythical Naag Lok and present-day society, combining Indian folklore with fantasy, action and humour. Ravi Kishan and Preity Mukhundhan are also part of the cast. While Dharma Productions has officially introduced Kartik Aaryan as the serpent protagonist, his second role remains based on reports. Envisioned as the first chapter of a possible fantasy franchise, ‘Naagzilla’ will be released on February 12, 2027.
8. Jeevan Bheema Yojana
Arshad Warsi will attempt his first career double role in director Abhishek Dogra’s crime comedy thriller ‘Jeevan Bheema Yojana’. He plays Jeevan, a debt-ridden family man, and Bheema, a stranger who looks exactly like him. When Jeevan and his wife Yojana encounter Bheema, they devise an insurance scam to escape their financial troubles. The plan spirals into chaos after the lookalike is connected to a diamond-smuggling operation. Sanjeeda Shaikh stars as Yojana, with Vijay Raaz, Pooja Chopra and Brijendra Kala completing the principal cast. Blending mistaken identity, crime and situational comedy, the film will release theatrically on August 28, 2026.
9. Sardar 2
Karthi will return as both veteran intelligence operative Chandra Bose, popularly known as Sardar, and his son Vijay Prakash in ‘Sardar 2’. Directed by PS Mithran, the Tamil spy thriller takes forward the story of the 2022 film. While Sardar’s past is expected to be explored through flashbacks, Vijay is recruited for another dangerous international mission after being suspended from the police force. SJ Suryah plays the principal antagonist, Black Dagger, with Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu and Babu Antony in supporting roles. The sequel promises a much larger espionage conflict extending beyond India. Produced by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment, ‘Sardar 2’ will arrive in theatres on September 10, 2026.
10. Varanasi
Following the global phenomenon of ‘RRR’, visionary director S.S. Rajamouli is mounting his next magnum opus, ‘Varanasi’, which is targeting an April 2027 release. Budgeted at a staggering scale and starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film promises to be a massive theatrical event. Mahesh Babu steps into an epic dual role, portraying a modern-day protagonist named Rudhra as well as Lord Rama. The plot is a sprawling narrative that blends mythology with an apocalyptic ticking clock, following Rudhra's adventures as the ancient city faces the impending threat of an asteroid strike. Spanning multiple yugas and continents, Mahesh Babu’s dual portrayal will be central to anchoring the film's massive visual effects.
