Despite India's heartbreaking loss in the World Cup final, many celebrities took to social media to commend the team for their exceptional efforts throughout the tournament.

The entire country was expecting Team India to win the Cricket World Cup 2023, but a billion hearts broke on Sunday as the Rohit Sharma-led side stumbled to a six-wicket loss against Australia in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. More than 90,000 fans were in attendance for the match, and the all-important game was even attended by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Ayushmann Khurrana, among others.

Despite India falling short of the World Cup trophy, many celebrities have taken to social media to commend the team for their exceptional efforts throughout the tournament.

Taking to X, SRK wrote, "“The way the Indian team has played this whole tournament is a matter of honour and they showed great spirit and tenacity. It’s a sport and there are always a bad day or two. Unfortunately it happened today….but thank u Team India for making us so proud of our sporting legacy in cricket…u bring too much cheer to the whole of India. Love and respect. You make us one proud Nation.”

Ranveer Singh took to Instagram Story, and wrote, "Some high, some low, some good days, some bad days, some wins, some losses. That’s sports, That’s life. We are all gutted but let’s applaud our boys for giving it their all."

Deepika Padukone also shared a picture of the national flag as her Instagram Story.

Ayushmann Khurrana shared a picture of himself from the match, and wrote, "Just a bad day at the office @indiancricketteam You guys will always be remembered as the toughest side of #WorldCup2023 Thank you for the adrenaline! Well played!.”

Taking to X, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "Team India .. last night’s result is not, in anyway,  a reflection of your talent , capability and standing  .. proud of you  .. better things will happen .. keep at it .."

After the match, Team India coach Rahul Dravid spoke to reporters at a press conference, and he said that there is a lot of "emotion" in the dressing room, and it was hard to see as a coach.

“He’s (Rohit Sharma) disappointed, as are many of the boys in the dressing room. There was a lot of emotion in that dressing room. It was tough to see as a coach, because I know how hard these guys have worked, what they’ve put in, the sacrifices they’ve made. So, it’s tough. It’s tough to see that as a coach, because you get to know these boys personally. You get to see the effort they put in, the hard work that we’ve put in over the last month," said Dravid.

Talking about the final, Team India were asked to bat first and the side was bundled out for 240. 

Australia then chased down the target in 43 overs with six wickets in hand. Travis Head was named as Player of the Match for his knock of 137 runs off just 120 balls.
