Biography: The Life of an Icon

Early Life and Family

Born on October 26, 1974 in Mumbai, Raveena Tandon was born into a family with deep roots in Indian cinema. She is the daughter of the late filmmaker Ravi Tandon and Veena Tandon. Her name itself is a creative blend of her parents' names—Ravi and Veena.

She attended Jamnabai Narsee School and later Mithibai College. However, the world of glamour called early; she dropped out in her second year to pursue acting after receiving an offer from filmmaker Shantanu Sheorey for a commercial project.

Personal Life and Philanthropy
Raveena has always been a woman ahead of her time. In 1995, at the age of 21, she adopted two daughters, Pooja and Chhaya, as a single mother—a move that was practically unheard of in the industry at that time.

In 2004, she married film distributor Anil Thadani in a grand ceremony at Udaipur’s Jag Mandir Palace. Together, they have two children: Rasha Thadani, who is currently making her own debut in the film industry, and Ranbir Thadani. In 2023, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri for her three decades of contribution to the arts and her extensive social work.

Filmography: A Career of Many Eras
Raveena Tandon’s career is defined by her ability to balance "masala" blockbusters with hard-hitting, performance-oriented cinema.
The 1990s: Commercial Superstardom

Raveena debuted in 1991 with Patthar Ke Phool, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She quickly became the face of the 1990s entertainer.

She starred in the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna (1994) as "Raveena," and achieved massive commercial success with Mohra (1994), which featured the timeless hit "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast." Her legendary partnership with Govinda in films like Dulhe Raja (1998) and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998) solidified her status as the queen of comedy and dance.

The 2000s: Critical Acclaim
In the early 2000s, Raveena shifted gears toward "parallel cinema" to prove her mettle as a serious performer. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a victim of domestic abuse in Daman (2001). She followed this with a haunting performance in Aks (2001), for which she received the Filmfare Special Performance Award, and the political drama Satta (2003), which is still considered one of her finest works.

The Modern Era: OTT and Pan-India Success
Raveena has successfully transitioned into the digital age. In 2021, she made her Netflix debut with Aranyak, playing the tough-as-nails cop Kasturi Dogra. She then stepped into the Pan-India spotlight with K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022), playing the formidable Prime Minister Ramika Sen.

In 2024, she led the legal drama Patna Shuklla, and in 2026, she is set to return to the big screen with the massive ensemble comedy Welcome to the Jungle.
