'Salaar' Director Prashanth Neel Not Scared Of Box Office Clash With SRK's 'Dunki'
'Salaar' director Prashanth Neel said he is not “fearful” that his movie will be clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Dunki'.

December 2023 will see a monumental box office clash as Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' directed by Rajkumar Hirani will be going up against Prashanth Neel's 'Salaar’, starring Prabhas. While 'Dunki' will be releasing on December 21, 'Salaar' will hit the screens on December 22. In the latest entertainment news, 'Salaar' director Prashanth Neel has opened up on his movie's clash with 'Dunki'. In an interview with Times of India, Prashanth Neel said that no filmmaker desires a clash, be it with a newcomer or a veteran like Rajkumar Hirani.
"Clash is not something you ideally want, be it with a newcomer or with the biggest star of Indian cinema. But it is a very unpleasant situation for anybody to move their date to somebody else's date. We also wouldn't want somebody to move to our date when we have announced it a year before. And we also did not want to do it. But that was a logistical decision that was taken only by the production," said Prashanth Neel.
"And usually we (me and my team) don't get into the aspects of what the production is going to decide as a release date, because they do not interfere in my process of filmmaking. So I do not interfere in their process of marketing or the release dates, the business aspect," he added.
Further speaking about it, 'Salaar' director said, "We are not fearful of the fact that another movie as big as that, the combination that it has. Rajkumari Hirani sir is one of my favourite directors. I am definitely sold on going and watching Dunki. So I do understand that that's a very big movie that is coming out. But the biggest fear that we have which is always when making a movie is whether the audience is going to like it or not."
Earlier, Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran had also spoken about the 'Dunki' vs 'Salaar' clash.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, he said, "The fact that we are releasing with Hirani sir and Shah Rukh sir’s film, leave everything else, as a film lover I love it! I am excited that during the holiday season, you have two giant films, by two giant filmmakers, starring two big stars, and diametrically opposite in every possible parameter like the story and narrative.”
“I am going to be watching both, I can promise you that. I am so looking forward to it. When did this last happen, that over a holiday season, we had two such big films? What better year than 2023 to celebrate Indian cinema like this,” he added.
For the unversed, 'Salaar's trailer is going to come out on Friday, December 1.
Talking about 'Salaar', the movie has been directed by Prashanth Neel, and it features Prabas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Ramachandra Raju, Sriya Reddy, Easwari Rao, among others.
On the other hand, 'Dunki' has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who is known for projects like 'MunnaBhai MBBS', 'Lage Raho MunnaBhai', '3 Idiots', 'PK', and 'Sanju'.
Rajkumar Hirani is yet to deliver a flop at the box office. Apart from SRK, 'Dunki' also stars Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani and Vicky Kaushal.
