Prabhas celebrates his 47th birthday with a special ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ sequel video.

Tollywood superstar Prabhas turned 47 today, and while wishes have been pouring in from global fans and filmmakers alike, the biggest treat of the day came from director Nag Ashwin. The makers of the 2024 sci-fi blockbuster ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ had a massive surprise in store for the Rebel Star's birthday. They officially marked his highly anticipated return to the sprawling franchise as the fan-favourite bounty hunter, Bhairava, by dropping an exclusive first-look video for the upcoming sequel.

The team took to social media to celebrate the actor's special day with a heartwarming caption: “To the superhero of Indian Cinema…Happy Birthday to the Darling of every generation, Rebel Star #Prabhas. We are excited to embark on another epic cinematic journey with you…#Kalki2898AD.”

Check out the video here:

The thrilling 32-second promotional clip gives fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse as the crew prepares a massive blue-screen set for Bhairava's grand return. The text 'Bhairava is back' flashes on the screen as Prabhas steps onto the carefully put-up set. Donning the rugged armour that has officially become his character's trademark, the actor takes his seat inside his trusty vehicle, Bujji, right as director Nag Ashwin says 'action'.

While the promo keeps an air of mystery by not fully revealing Prabhas's final look, it showcases him in a striking silhouette standing atop an elevated structure. As the camera moves in closer, the text 'Happy Birthday Bhairava' appears, revealing the bounty hunter's signature long hair and thick beard, proving he is getting right back into the skin of the character.

Fans immediately flooded the internet, sharing GIFs of Prabhas as Karna from the first film and expressing their awe. One excited fan shared a screenshot of the silhouette and commented, “Adi em screen presence ra babu (What is that screen presence).” Another user added, “Aura chuduuuu asalaaaaa (Look at his aura).” A third fan perfectly summed up the anticipation, writing, “Waiting eagerly for the rampage.”

As production ramps up, there are some major casting updates. Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan have already returned to the sets to reprise their respective roles as Ashwatthama and Supreme Yaskin. However, Deepika Padukone, who played the crucial role of the pregnant test subject SUM-80, aka Sumathi, in the first film, has exited the project. Rumours immediately began circulating that either Sai Pallavi or Alia Bhatt might step in as her replacement or as entirely new characters. Addressing these whispers, Nag Ashwin clarified to Variety India in September that no new characters are being added to the universe, though he carefully avoided revealing exactly who has replaced Deepika.

For those needing a refresher, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is set in a bleak, dystopian future where the world's dwindling resources are ruthlessly pooled by Supreme Yaskin, leaving the rest of humanity to suffer. The utopia named Shambhala fights back against this oppression, clinging to the belief that the birth of a saviour will soon save the day. The immortal Ashwatthama protects SUM-80, believing her unborn child to be the future avatar of Kalki.

The first part concluded with a massive reveal: Bhairava is Karna reincarnated. According to the makers, this highly anticipated sequel will pick up exactly where that monumental cliffhanger left off.
