‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’ has left audiences with a major reason to stay through the end credits. The Ranbir Kapoor-Sai Pallavi-Yash starrer, which opened in theatres on November 5, introduces another key character from the epic in its closing moments, with Sunny Deol finally making his much-awaited appearance as Lord Hanuman. The veteran actor does not appear during the main narrative of the first installment. Instead, the makers have reserved his introduction for a post-credit sequence, giving viewers their first glimpse of Hanuman while keeping much of his appearance under wraps.
The sequence begins on an intense musical note before Hanuman enters the frame. His face is initially concealed, building anticipation before a wider shot reveals him soaring through the sky with his gada. The moment culminates with Hanuman invoking “Jai Shri Ram”, signalling the important role he will play in the next chapter of the story.
Adding to the emotional weight of the sequence is the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, performed by Diljit Dosanjh, Sukhwinder Singh, Mohit Chauhan, and Kailash Kher. The makers have deliberately offered only a glimpse of Sunny’s portrayal, leaving audiences curious about how the veteran actor will embody one of the Ramayana’s most revered characters.
The post-credit sequence also offers a brief introduction to another important character. Raghav Juyal appears as Meghnada, the eldest son of Ravana and heir to Lanka's throne, hinting at the larger conflict that awaits viewers in the sequel.
Sunny Deol's introduction is more than a promotional surprise. Hanuman is central to the next phase of the Ramayana, particularly after Ravana abducts Sita and takes her to Lanka.
Another important announcement comes towards the film's conclusion, with the makers confirming that the sequel will reach theatres in 2028 rather than the previously anticipated 2027 window.
Producer Namit Malhotra recently addressed the revised release timeline in an interview with E! News, explaining that the additional year will allow the team to give the concluding chapter the scale and attention it requires.
Before arriving in cinemas on November 5, ‘Ramayana’ secured a U certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing the way for its theatrical release. The film has also generated considerable discussion around its visual presentation and interpretation of the timeless epic.
