Met Gala 2025 was nothing short of a spectacular cultural intersection, as India's brightest stars dazzled on the iconic steps of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. From Shah Rukh Khan's highly anticipated Met debut in a regal Sabyasachi ensemble to Kiara Advani gracefully showcasing her baby bump in a stunning Gaurav Gupta creation, the event brimmed with memorable moments. Priyanka Chopra’s vintage glam, Diljit Dosanjh’s royal Punjabi charm, and stunning displays by Natasha Poonawalla and Isha Ambani took over Met Gala 2025.

The Met Gala 2025, held on May 5, celebrated the theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’. This year's event put into spotlight the influence of Black dandyism and tailoring traditions. As global stars gathered at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Indian celebrities captivated the spotlight with remarkable outfits.

Check out what Indian stars wore:

1. Shah Rukh Khan: Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan made his Met Gala debut, becoming the first Indian male actor to attend the event. Designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, he donned a custom black floor length elongated coat in Tasmanian superfine wool with monogrammed, Japanese horn buttons. The coat came hand canvassed, single breasted with a peak collar and wide lapels. Paired with a crepe de chine silk shirt and tailored superfine wool trousers. A pleated satin kamarbandh rounded off his look. He also wore a custom stack, including a prominent ‘K’ pendant (symbolizing 'King Khan'). A major highlight of his look was The Bengal Tiger Head Cane crafted in 18k gold with tourmalines, sapphires, old mine cut and brilliant cut diamonds.

2. Kiara Advani: The ever-so-stunning Bollywood actress not only made her Met Gala debut this year, but also chose the occasion to proudly flaunt her pregnancy. Kiara Advani looked radiant in a custom Gaurav Gupta couture gown aptly titled ‘Bravehearts’, symbolizing strength, transformation, and motherhood. The off-shoulder black gown featured a dramatic silhouette – including sharp, wing-like sleeves and a corset-style bodice – tailored meticulously to celebrate Kiara’s new chapter of life. Draped over her shoulders was a double-panelled satin cape with striking black-and-white contrast, a design element inspired by the late André Leon Talley’s signature style. In a subtle, heart-warming touch, Gaurav Gupta even incorporated an umbilical cord motif into the gown’s gold sculpted breastplate as a tribute to Kiara’s pregnancy. Kiara also sported an asymmetrical earring look (a dangling diamond in one ear and an edgy ear cuff in the other), along with a few statement rings that added sparkle without overwhelming the ensemble.

3. Diljit Dosanjh: The Punjabi singer-actor made one of the most memorable Met Gala 2025 debuts, embodying desi royalty with a powerful fusion of Punjabi heritage and high fashion. Styled by Prabal Gurung, he wore an ivory and gold sherwani paired with a tehmat (draped bottoms) and a sweeping cape embroidered with a map of Punjab – a deeply personal tribute. His regal accessories included a traditional ivory turban with a kalgi and plume. He also wore a layered diamond set by Golecha’s Jewels, emulating the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh's iconic Patiala necklace by Cartier, and a sheathed talwar that echoed Sikh warrior grandeur. Reportedly, he became the only Indian invited to Anna Wintour’s exclusive post-gala dinner, firmly staking his place on the global style map.

4. Priyanka Chopra: The Indian actress returned to the Met Gala for her fifth appearance, bringing a bold twist to old Hollywood glamour. Dressed in a custom black-and-white polka-dotted suit gown by Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, Priyanka stole the show. The custom Balmain creation featured a form-fitting strapless gown with a cinched waist, power shoulders and a sharply tailored blazer. She accessorized with black gloves, a dramatic black hat, and a jaw-dropping emerald and diamond Bulgari necklace. The look perfectly captured the gala’s tailoring and dandyism theme. Joining her was husband Nick Jonas in a matching Bianca Saunders suit.

5. Manish Malhotra: The renowned Indian designer made a striking Met Gala debut, stepping out from behind the scenes in a regal black ensemble that turned heads. He wore a dramatic sculptural black sherwani cape richly embroidered with gold swirls, layered over a classic three-piece suit featuring a black vest, white shirt, and black tie adorned with silver brooches. The look blended Indian craftsmanship with the gala’s focus on sharp tailoring and dandy flair. Known for dressing Bollywood stars, Manish Malhotra embraced the spotlight, earning social media praise. His intricate cape was hailed as one of the night’s standout pieces. Manish Malhotra not only represented Indian fashion with pride but also designed Natasha Poonawalla’s show-stealing look, making a dual impact.

6. Isha Ambani: The fashion icon and businesswoman brought refined elegance to the Met Gala 2025 in a custom Anamika Khanna ensemble that seamlessly fused tradition with modern tailoring. Her look featured a pearl and gold embroidered halter corset, paired with sleek black trousers and a sharply cut ivory jacket with its handwoven Benarasi train. The outfit, which reportedly took over 20,000 hours to craft, perfectly echoed the gala’s dandy-inspired theme. Elevating her look further, Isha Ambani opted for a layered diamond necklace and choker piece with pearls, pink stones, and beads, paired with multiple statement rings. With minimal styling – a sleek ponytail and soft glam makeup – she let the craftsmanship and royal jewels speak for themselves.

7. Natasha Poonawalla: Indian businesswoman Natasha Poonawalla stunned at the Met Gala 2025 in a dramatic custom Manish Malhotra creation that fused heritage with haute couture. Her sculpted fishtail skirt was crafted from two vintage Parsi Gara saris – one over a century old – showcasing intricate hand-embroidery. She paired it with a corseted cummerbund, a delicate lace bralette, and a sharply tailored black Gara jacket lined in imperial purple satin. A lace cravat, pearl details, and a Chanel pearl-trimmed bag added Victorian flair. Her slicked-back bun, bold eyeliner, and emerald jewellery completed the regal look.

8. Mona Patel: Entrepreneur and investor Mona Patel returned to the Met Gala with a bold Thom Browne ensemble that fused innovation with tailoring. She wore a deconstructed black tuxedo featuring a cropped blazer and dramatic pleated skirt with a tulle bustle. A sleek bun, berry lips, and a black hat completed her dandy-inspired look. But the real showstopper was her robotic dog ‘Vector’, dressed in a tux and led on a diamond-encrusted leash. The futuristic pet went viral, turning heads on the blue carpet.

9. Sabyasachi Mukherjee: The famous Indian designer made a powerful mark at Met Gala 2025 by dressing Shah Rukh Khan in a striking all-black ensemble. He also accompanied SRK to the star-studded event in one of his own creations, defined by a tailored ivory quilted overcoat with bold lapels, layered over a crisp white shirt and black trousers cinched with a cummerbund. A velvet cap, a multi-strand choker, and statement rings added drama to his dapper look.

The dress code for Met Gala 2025 was ‘Tailored For You’, and everyone from Shah Rukh Khan to Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani opted for ensembles that were personal to them.
