The occasion of Bollywood actress Tabu's birthday delivered a massive cinematic treat for fans today with the highly anticipated first look of her character from Akkineni Nagarjuna’s 100th film, ‘King 100’. Produced by Annapurna Studios, the upcoming action thriller reunites the iconic lead pair after a massive 28-year gap. However, fans hoping for a nostalgic romantic reunion are in for a shock. As the intense new video and promotional taglines boldly declare, "THIS TIME IT'S NOT LOVE," setting the stage for an epic on-screen rivalry where "THE WAR BEGINS".
In the nearly one-minute character teaser, Tabu is introduced as Mahanthi Jhansi Rani, a formidable political figure.
Check out the first look video here:
The video opens with a sweeping establishing shot of grand institutional architecture under stormy, overcast skies, underscored by Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad’s (DSP) thumping musical arrangement. The tension immediately builds as a massive crowd waves black flags in protest outside a Government General Hospital. Amidst this charged atmosphere, Tabu’s authoritative Telugu voiceover echoes, firmly dividing the world into two distinct categories: those who believe in hard work, and those who rely on luck.
Standing as a powerful silhouette against a towering glass window, she makes her ruthless ideology clear. A dramatic text card reading "28 YEARS OF WAITING" flashes on screen, immediately followed by an extreme close-up of Tabu unapologetically snapping her fingers to dismiss the concept of destiny. Stepping up to a press podium adorned in a striking black-and-white patterned saree, she delivers the glimpse’s most punchy dialogue with absolute disdain: "I hate luck!".
The visual storytelling then shifts into a high-octane gear. The screen flashes the word "WAR" as traditional folk drummers in white dhotis march vigorously alongside a vintage ambassador car. Her grand arrival is signalled by a simple yet commanding shot of her foot stepping out of the vehicle, followed by a pan across a golden desk nameplate confirming her official title: MAHANTHI JHANSI RANI.
Perhaps the most striking visual of the entire glimpse is Tabu’s boss-like posture in an antique armchair. Resting one bare foot up on a table while intensely twirling a pen, she stares down the camera. Behind her rests a massive, menacing mural of a fierce Goddess Kali, perfectly mirroring the destructive, commanding aura of her character. The video concludes with a majestic shot of her back turned to the camera, her saree pallu blowing in the wind, before she faces a sprawling sea of thousands of cheering supporters. Raising her hand, she takes an oath, cementing her ambition to rule as a great political leader.
‘King 100’ will arrive in cinemas on December 24, 2026. Co-starring Ashok Selvan and Aishwarya Rajesh, the upcoming film has been directed by Ra. Karthik. With her commanding screen presence, Tabu's return to Telugu cinema promises to be nothing short of a theatrical spectacle.
