Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial venture ‘Kabir Singh’, the official Hindi adaptation of his Telugu hit ‘Arjun Reddy’, was released in cinemas in 2019. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, ‘Kabir Singh’ was criticised for glorifying toxic masculinity and misogyny. Despite all the criticism surrounding the 2019 Hindi movie, it emerged as a major box office hit. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial made Rs 278 crore in India and Rs 377 crore globally, giving Shahid Kapoor the biggest hit of his career.

The movie delved into Kabir Singh’s (Shahid) tumultuous journey of love, heartbreak, and self-destruction after his girlfriend, played by Kiara Advani, married someone else. Recently, actor Adil Hussain, who was a part of the film, criticised ‘Kabir Singh’. He even went on to say that he regrets doing the film.

Now, Sandeep Reddy Vanga has slammed the actor on X (formerly Twitter). He said that Adil Hussain’s “20 art films” didn’t get “as much fame as” ‘Kabir Singh’ did. He also added that he will replace Adil Hussain’s face in the film using AI.

During his appearance on the YouTube channel AP Podcast, Adil Hussain had said that he agreed to do the film without reading the script first.

“That’s the only film in my life that I have done without reading the script, without seeing the movie which it is based on.” Adil said that he went to watch the film in a theatre after the release and walked out in 20 minutes. “I regret it till today. The only movie I have regretted doing is that film… Kabir Singh,” he said.

Adil also said that ‘Kabir Singh’ is a “misogynist” film that made him “feel small as a human being.”

“I think a film like this, it celebrates something which is not beneficial for the society. It legitimizes male misogyny. It legitimizes violence against anybody for that matter, doesn’t have to be a woman. And it celebrates it, it glorifies it and it should not be glorified,” he said.

The senior actor also said that he initially refused to be a part of 'Kabir Singh' because of time constraints.

“I told my manager, ask them lot of money and they will say no but they agreed so I went and did it and I liked the scene. The scene I did is a good scene so I thought the film is also going to be good. So I go to watch the film and I thought what am I doing here? You have no idea how I felt. I felt so embarrassed,” he said.

Adil also said that he is mortified at the thought of his wife watching the film. “She would be so angry if she sees this,” he said.

For the unversed, Sandeep Reddy Vanga returned to theatres in 2023 with ‘Animal’, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor. The 2023 movie, which made over Rs 500 crore in India, also starred Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Bobby Deol and Shakti Kapoor.

Coming back to Adil Hussain, he will be seen next in ‘Ulajh’. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role. The film also stars Gulshan Devaiah and Roshan Mathews in pivotal roles.
