Salman Khan’s ‘Sikandar’ Ditches Traditional Friday Release. Check When It Will Hit Theatres
The AR Murugadoss directorial is breaking tradition by skipping the usual Friday release. Here’s when it will arrive in theatres.
For a while now, it has been publicly known that the Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer ‘Sikandar’ is set to hit theatres on Eid 2025. However, the exact release date remained undisclosed – until now. The makers have finally revealed when the film will arrive in cinemas. The AR Murugadoss directorial is breaking the traditional Friday release pattern and will instead premiere on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Salman Khan shared this crucial update on X (formerly Twitter), along with a new poster of the film.
In the caption, the Bollywood superstar wrote, “See you in theatres worldwide on 30th March! #Sikandar.”

For the unversed, movies are typically released in theatres on Fridays to capitalize on weekend ticket sales. However, ‘Sikandar’ is set for a Sunday release. Interestingly, Salman Khan's last theatrical release, ‘Tiger 3’, also debuted on a Sunday – Diwali 2023. The film underperformed at the box office, earning less than Rs 300 crore in India.
Previously, The VP of Distribution for Yash Raj Films had previously defended the decision to release the film in theatres on a Sunday. Speaking to India Today, Rohan Malhotra had said, “I always believe that it is absolutely fine to do the conventional and there is no need to reinvent if there is no need for it.”
“In this case, however, what came to our mind was that it is important for us not to look at the opening day numbers but to focus on what is eventually going to benefit, and in the case of Tiger 3, we definitely felt that going on Laxmi Puja day, which is considered the weakest day to release a film, would be a better fit for our film,” he added.
As for ‘Sikandar’, the makers have yet to unveil the official trailer. So far, only songs and a teaser have been released digitally.
Earlier this month, Salman Khan revealed a new poster for ‘Sikandar’, featuring him deflecting an attack from a sharp object, with his intense gaze taking centre stage.
With Salman Khan in his element, breathtaking action sequences, and a gripping storyline, ‘Sikandar’ is poised to be one of the biggest releases of 2025. The film will also star Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Patil Babbar, Sathyaraj, and Anjini Dhawan.
Directed by AR Murugadoss and backed by Sajid Nadiadwala, ‘Sikandar’ comes at a crucial time for Salman Khan, as his recent releases have struggled at the box office. Fans of the superstar are eagerly awaiting a roaring comeback.
