The entire country is still in shock as wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was the odds-on favourite to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, has been disqualified ahead of the final bout. For the unversed, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified on Wednesday morning, after she failed to make the weight, just hours ahead of the final match in the 50kg weight category. Vinesh Phogat was found roughly 100 grams over the permissible limits, and this eventually led to her disqualification.
Just minutes after Vinesh Phogat's disqualification, Bollywood actress and BJP MP, Hema Malini spoke to news agency PTI, in which she gave her opinion about the wrestler being disqualified, hours before her gold medal match.
"It is very surprising. Bada ajeeb sa bhi lagta hai ki bas 100grams ki wajah se wo disqualify ho gayi, to kitna important hai apne weight to theek se rakhna. Hum logo ko acha seekh milna chahiye, ki 100grams also matters a lot. We feel sad for her, I wish she loses that 100grams quickly, but milega nahi abhi," Hema Malini said while speaking to news agency PTI.

For the unversed, as per the competition rules, Vinesh Phogat will now not be eligible even for a silver medal and the 50 kg category will have just gold and bronze medal winners.
As per Indian Express, Vinesh Phogat made the weight for Tuesday’s bouts but as per official rules, wrestlers have to stay within their weight category on both days of the competition.
For the uninitiated, Vinesh Phogat was slated to face Sarah Hildebrandt in the final, a wrestler against whom Phogat has a better head to head record.
