Actress Nargis Fakhri, known for her work in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’, has been garnering headlines after her sister Aliya Fakhri was reportedly arrested. Aliya Fakhri has been arrested in connection with the deaths of her former boyfriend and his friend in Queens, New York. As per several reports, the 43-year-old Aliya is accused of “intentionally setting fire to a detached garage”. This in turn resulted in the deaths of 35-year-old Edward Jacobs and 33-year-old Anastasia Ettienne, as per a statement issued by District Attorney Melinda Katz.

Nargis Fakhri is yet to comment on this matter. However, her mother Marie A Fakhri has now come out in public to support Aliya. As per Hindustan Times, she said, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.”

Aliya's mother also stated that her daughter has been battling opioid addiction following a dental mishap. She believes that this addiction might have contributed to Aliya's erratic behaviour.

For the unversed, on the morning of November 2, 2024, Aliya allegedly first arrived at the garage, shouting, “You're all going to die today”.

As per a witness, the building was soon engulfed in flames. The District Attorney's office then confirmed the tragic incident in its official release.

Anastasia Ettienne, Jacobs' friend, rushed downstairs once he was alerted about the mishap and then attempted to go back upstairs to rescue him. However, neither of them managed to survive the fire. In the end, the duo succumbed to smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.

As per reports, Aliya Fakhri lived on Parsons Boulevard in Queens, whereas the incident occurred in the Jamaica neighborhood.

Aliya Fakhri has been indicted by a grand jury for four counts of murder in the first degree, four counts of murder in the second degree and one count each of arson in the first degree and arson in the second degree, as per the release issued by the authorities.

She now faces a potential life imprisonment if she is convicted of the charge.
