“Great That They Met”: Imtiaz Ali Opens Up On Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Sharing Stage At IIFA Awards 2025

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor recently broke the internet after the two ex-lovers were spotted chatting at the side lines of the IIFA Awards 2025 in Jaipur. Now, Imtiaz Ali, the director of ‘Jab We Met’, has stated that fans of the film are asking for a sequel, especially after the movie's lead pair shared the stage at the awards ceremony. For the unversed, Kareena and Shahid attended the press conference for the 25th edition of the IIFA Awards in Jaipur last week.
Several fans dubbed the moment a reunion of Geet and Aditya, the characters from Imtiaz Ali's cult rom-com.
“Actually, I find it very interesting that Shahid and Kareena met at IIFA, and people are talking to me about Jab We Met. Shahid has said that he thinks I have moved on, but I believe that everyone has. It's been a long time since Jab We Met,” Imtiaz Ali told news agency PTI.
“I think we should savor that and not spoil it by coming up with a sequel at all. I'm not really planning a movie with Shahid and Kareena per se, but it's great that they met, and they are both fantastic actors. I obviously had the greatest time working with both of them,” he added.
For those unfamiliar, ‘Jab We Met’ is a romantic drama about a heartbroken businessman (Shahid) and a free-spirited woman (Kareena). The film, which was released in 2007, continues to receive love from audiences. Last year, it was also re-released in cinemas.
Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan started dating in the early 2000s. However, the duo parted ways while filming ‘Jab We Met’.
Shahid Kapoor is now married to Mira Rajput. The couple has two children, a daughter named Misha and a son named Zain.
On the other hand, Kareena Kapoor is happily married to Saif Ali Khan. The couple has two children, Taimur and Jeh.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Shahid Kapoor was last seen in ‘Deva’ alongside Pooja Hegde.
As for Kareena Kapoor, she was last seen in Rohit Shetty's ‘Singham Again’ alongside Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor. The film grossed nearly Rs 300 crore at the box office.
