In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, an Air India flight bound for London’s Gatwick Airport crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft, Flight AI171, was carrying 232 passengers and 12 crew members at the time of the crash, according to Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Director General of the Directorate of Civil Aviation. The devastating accident triggered an outpouring of grief across the nation, including reactions from Bollywood celebrities who took to social media to express their condolences.

Air India confirmed the incident on X, stating, “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.com and on our X handle.”
Harrowing visuals from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky and fiery debris near the airport. Television footage depicted the aircraft taking off over a residential area before vanishing from view, followed moments later by a fiery explosion in the distance.
The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, responded swiftly, reaching out to Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Police Commissioner. He assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance.
As authorities continue rescue and relief efforts, the nation mourns yet another devastating aviation tragedy.
