Over the years, the fandom of reality television series has continued to increase worldwide and hence, it is no surprise that there have been several such hit reality shows globally. India is also not very far behind when it comes to reality TV as the country has time and time again come up with several fan-favourite reality TV shows like 'Bigg Boss', 'MTV Roadies', and 'Splitsvilla'. However, it is fair to say that no show has been able to match the popularity of 'Bigg Boss' over the years.

'Bigg Boss' (TV) has now gone on for 17 seasons, and 'Bigg Boss OTT' (Digital) has now come up with its third edition, which is being hosted by Anil Kapoor.

Before getting into 'Bigg Boss OTT', let us tell you a little about 'Bigg Boss', and how the show started in India. 'Bigg Boss' is an Indian adaptation of the Dutch reality show 'Big Brother'. 'Bigg Boss' originally started in Hindi, and it has since been made in seven Indian languages, including Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Malayalam.

The first season of 'Bigg Boss' was launched in Hindi in 2006 through Sony TV. It was in 2013 that the reality TV show extended its presence in Kannada and Bengali. In 2017, the show then extended its presence in Tamil, and in 2018, 'Bigg Boss' was introduced in Marathi and Malayalam languages.

Talking about 'Bigg Boss' Hindi, the first season was hosted by actor Arshad Warsi, and the second season was hosted by actress Shilpa Shetty. The third edition of 'Bigg Boss' Hindi, which aired in 2009, was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. However, it was the fourth edition that saw a great fillip for the show as Salman Khan came on board to host the show.

The fifth season was jointly hosted by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. However, the attempt lasted just one season. Ever since then, it has been Salman Khan who has hosted the show, and it is fair to say that he has made the show his very own with his entertaining hosting style. Over the years, several international stars have also appeared in 'Bigg Boss'.

Apart from its TV version, ‘Bigg Boss’ Hindi has also been launched in the OTT space. The first season of ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ was hosted by Karan Johar. Meanwhile, Salman Khan replaced Karan Johar as the host for ‘Bigg Boss OTT 2’, which premiered in June 2023.

Now coming to 'Bigg Boss OTT', the digital series is a spin-off of the popular Indian reality TV show, 'Bigg Boss'. The reality TV series premiered in August 2021 on the streaming platform Voot. This digital-only version was created to engage viewers with its unfiltered and uncensored content, promising an intense and dramatic experience.

The concept, which is similar to its television counterpart, adds interactive elements, allowing the audience to influence the game in real time. However, the heightened drama and raw content also led to several controversies that garnered significant attention.

The first edition which was hosted by Karan Johar, was eventually won by Divya Agarwal, while the second edition hosted by Salman Khan, was won by YouTuber Elvish Yadav. 'Bigg Boss OTT 2' turned out to be a huge success, and the show's popularity led the makers to come up with 'Bigg Boss OTT 3'.
