SYNOPSIS

Virasat is a critically acclaimed 1997 Indian Hindi-language action-drama film directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan. The movie is a highly praised remake of the landmark Tamil classic Thevar Magan, which was originally written by Kamal Haasan. Synopsis
The story follows Shakti Thakur, who returns to his ancestral village in India after completing his studies in London. He brings along his modern girlfriend, Anita, whom he plans to marry, and intends to sell his share of the family property to start a chain of fast-food restaurants in the city.

However, his aspirations clash heavily with the traditional values of his father, the village patriarch Raja Thakur, who wants his foreign-returned son to stay and uplift the community. Shakti finds himself deeply unsettled by the stagnant atmosphere of the village and a bitter, long-standing feudal war between his father and his malicious uncle, Birju Thakur.

Tragedy strikes when the ongoing feud claims the life of Raja Thakur, leaving the village leaderless and vulnerable. As violence escalates and his cousin Bali instigates further chaos, Shakti is forced to abandon his modern clothing, his dreams of returning to the city, and his relationship with Anita. Stepping up to preserve peace, he marries a local village girl, Gehna, accepts his father's mantle, and undertakes a transformative journey to defend the villagers—ultimately learning that his true virasat (inheritance) is the responsibility toward his people.
