Synopsis
Set in the Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh, 12th Fail begins in 1997 with a young Manoj Kumar Sharma preparing for his Class 12 board exams. Coming from a poverty-stricken family, Manoj, like his classmates, expects to pass by mass-cheating condoned by the school. However, a newly transferred, zero-tolerance police officer, DSP Dushyant Singh, arrives at the school and puts an absolute stop to the cheating. As a result, Manoj fails his exam. Far from being embittered, Manoj is profoundly inspired by the DSP's unyielding integrity and honesty.
Determined to rewrite his future, Manoj travels to Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar—the hub of civil service coaching—to prepare for the grueling UPSC exam, aiming to become an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
What follows is an arduous, years-long journey of extreme survival. Lacking financial support, Manoj works punishing odd jobs, including cleaning public toilets, grinding flour at an atta chakki, and working night shifts as a security guard, while studying on just a few hours of sleep. Along the way, he encounters repeated failures, crushing heartbreaks, and systemic biases. Yet, with the foundational mantra of "Restart", the unwavering love of his partner Shraddha, and the camaraderie of dedicated friends, Manoj fights through his final attempts to achieve the ultimate breakthrough.
