Did You Know: Rajkumar Hirani Was Asked To Remove "All Is Well" Childbirth Scene In '3 Idiots'
Did you know Rajkumar Hirani was asked to make changes to this crucial scene in '3 Idiots'?
Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots', starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi, continues to be one of the most popular movies to come out of Bollywood in the last three decades. The film perfectly strikes the balance between comedy and social message. But did you know there was a time when one of the most pivotal scenes in the film, was asked to be removed by certain naysayers? Yes, you read that right. R Madhavan, who is winning praise for his performance as the antagonist in 'Shaitaan', has revealed that certain people around the film found the particular scene in question to be a "little too much", and advised Raju Hirani to get rid of it.
"I remember during 3 Idiots, there was a scene when the baby is born and he is stillborn and then all the boys start chanting ‘all is well’ and the baby just kicks. When we showed the film to people, so many people said that the whole film is fine, and is in a different frequency but this is a commercial scene, this is a little too much, remove this and the film will be on the same level then," Madhavan told Connect FM Canada.
"Raju heard everyone, but then he decided suno sabki karo apni (listen to everyone, but do what you want). He kept that scene because he knew that in B and C centers, this will be the scene when people applauded and he was absolutely right. At the time of the premiere, people who did not clap… in the theatre, the moment the kid kicked, the theatre just erupted with applause," he added.
For the unversed, '3 Idiots' also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani, and Omi Vaidya. The film is a satire about the social pressures youngsters face under the Indian education system.
Speaking of R Madhavan, he was last seen in 'Shaitaan', which also stars Ajay Devgn and Jyotika.
The film which was released in cinemas on March 8, is nearing the Rs 125 crore mark in India. 'Shaitaan' is the second Hindi film of 2024 to breach the Rs 100 crore mark after Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor-starrer 'Fighter'.
